Strange Clouds

Journal Entry: Sat Jun 13, 2009, 3:51 AM

Wow!!

This is what i could see thursday evening from my balcony. I never saw such a particular clouds formations, not to say about the colors. There were different storm around till when the clouds opened on the west and the sun light produced this incredible show on the east side of the sky. The quality of the pictures is nothing special at all, but i loved the clouds and i wanted to share them with you all, maybe i will uplod to my gallery a couple of these pics later.

Interesting Stuff

:target: A very nice and helpfull tutorial by =Sun-Seeker about his layer adjustment technique for increasing contrast and colour depth in a photograph. Here is the link: Photoshop Layer adjust.

:terget: Maybe you already know this extension for Firefox, but i like it and want to bring it to your attention. It's called deviantAnywhere and it will show and notify you when new messages arrive for you on deviantArt.

:target: In case you don't already know this web page i want to give you the link: The Time Catcher. In my opinion is one of the most beautiful collection of wonderful pictures on the net. Some of the best landscape photographers in the world are united in this page. Take a look, you will not regret it!

:target: Thank you =diado! Yes becouse he created a quick little script to detect and remove the spam links that have recently been circulating on deviantART. It removes the links and replaces them with non-clickable text explaining that there was a spam link detected and removed. Here is the link to his Journal with all the instructions to install it.

:target: I want to give some more publicity to this contest organized by =DianaCretu: the "reverse contest". Why is it called "reverse contest"? Because normally you first have the deviation, then the comments. In this case, the comment comes first, and you will come up with the deviation. I think she really had a very original idea. So please go to her Journal, read the details and send your entry!. There are a lot of great prizes too!

:target: I have discovered this great project on dA called The Knowlegde, if you don't know about it take a look. The Knowledge is an ever expanding database of artists from all around dA who would be happy to help out other deviants in progressing their artistic skills through a mentor/mentoree relationship.

:target: I really want to give publicity to the cause of the WSPA in their effort to achieve recognition and protection of animals around the world. ACT NOW and go to sign this petition! Tell your governement that animals matters to you!

:target: It seems that the problem of stolen art is becoming bigger and bigger every day that pass. Some time ago i have found MyFreeCopyright.com, a site that can help in proving the copyright of your own art works. If you are interested go and take a look, it's free!.

:target: =alarie-tano made a nice script for Greasemonkey that can help all the people who like to do features in their Journal. It needs a little practice to use it at its best but i think it can be usefull, here is the link: JournalCollect v1.02.

:target: Ever dreamt to see published a real book with your own pictures? I'm sure yes! Well, you can do it and you can sell it too! Blurb gives you a free software to make your book, with photos, text and artwork and then you can sell it!

:target: For all the people interested in learning on how to use layers and masks i have found this page: BlueHour. There is a series of videos explaining all about that, you can download them too. The author of the page dedicate another part of the site to some videos showing many of the techniques he use to edit his photos.

:target: In case someone missed it. =Alex37 wrote on his journal an excellent method for sharpening pictures for the web. It's explained very well and he also prepared an action for Photoshop CS3, it couldn't be easier!

:target: I have found this beautiful script for Greasemonkey that really make easy to send suggestions for Daily Deviations. Here is the link to SuggestDD v0.3 Update. On that page you find all the instructions to install the script. Give it a try.

:target: I'm sure you all already read about Color Management. The subject was recently debated in ^kkart and *AndyMumford Journals, but in case you missed it go and take a look. I think it's very important to have the chance to see all the colors in pictures as they should be seen. These are a couple interesting link about the subject:

Calibrating the Monitor

The strip shows a range of greys from pure black to pure white. You should be able to see a clear difference between each shade of grey, ranging from pure black (left) and pure white (right). Along the top of the strips are alternate patches of black and dark grey. If it looks solid black to you (look very carefully), your monitor's brightness setting is too low. Increase it until you can -just- perceive the difference between the grey and the black squares.

deviantID

Hi everybody
I’m Italian, i was born in Rome and spent almost all my life in Milan. At the moment i live in Bucharest, Romania, with my family.

I simply love to take pictures! I started when i was a kid, but just in the last years, after i bought my first digital camera, i developed my passion. When i take pictures i almost feel in another world, forget all the problems and just relax myself.

I never took any course or class and only recently i made a lot of progress, both on technique and post editing, inspired by the great photographers i have found here on dA, but i really still have so much to learn!

My first digital camera was a Canon Pawershot A70. Then i bought a Fuji Finepix S5600, i still think it can take some great pictures and then about one year ago i bought my first dsrl, the Canon 400D/Rebel XTi. I changed very fast the kit lens with the Tamron AF 17-50mm f/2.8. I just love the combination of that camera and lens!

We often miss the small things in life as we rush through the day doing whatever we need to do to survive in this hectic world.
You are welcome Malcolm :)
